If I want to tell someone about an alternative to Google Maps *in a browser*, where should I send them? OSM.org is extremely slow these days, and they display tons of notes by default. And I've recently learned that it is not supposed to be a front end for end users, just a repo for the data and a place to edit it.

So what's the real maps.google.com alternative for people just needing a map, travel reccommendations, etc?

Next time someone tells you they’re a “privacy professional” ask “what kind?”

“Do you get paid to help protect my privacy or to erode it?”

They’ll say “to protect it.”

Then ask them “who pays you? And how do they make their money?” And you’ll get your real answer.

Working in the #wework cafe next to the canal. It is full of all the horrible capitalist crap I detest, sitting listening, to the overheard #fashernista #dotcons social/eco suicide on the next door tables.

The "Engineers at our leading tech firms and universities tend to see human beings as the problem and technology as the solution."

"the new digital barons — quickly appropriated and centralized the platforms and servers where that communication took place."

"ended up relegated to the comments section under click-bait stories or, worse, under product descriptions on Amazon."

ideology is a short form for the historical embedding of arguments without this everything startes from the surface. The divides in thought and society are deep, we will never touch anything real on the surface. Yes its dirty and disgusting under there, ideology is a cleaned up version of the real history we can use to keep things polite.

all views are ideological so keep your communication clear to get a wider view. But posting right views as left is a social problem that needs speaking about :)

A problem with social media is that lots of "progressive types" posts are fed by right wing memes. That people feed on this and feed it to others is both sad and bad.

I get irritated when people who use iPhones go around screeching about how they are advocating privacy, digital rights and software freedom.

no, you're participating in an ecosystem that is just as bad. stop trying to preach to the rest of us about morality.

Mastodon seems to be sliding off the peek. Will it take the fragile reboot with it is a sad and bad question.

Best to not see this as a ethical judgment and better to see this as a good move to have space/time to live a more interesting life. Money for most people is directly connected with depressing, pointless, work slavery.

1) Simple spend less on crap.

2) Work less to earn the money to spend on crap.

3) Live life better in the space this opens up.
